Hull City 2026-27: Squad, Players, Stadium, and Kits Guide
Hull City are back in the Premier League after nine years away, and their return has started better than anyone at the MKM Stadium could have expected. A 2-0 win over Manchester United was followed by a hard-earned 1-0 victory at Coventry, giving the Tigers six points from their first two matches.
Sergej Jakirović has kept the tough, organised core that won the Championship play-offs and added players with top-flight experience and international quality. Konstantinos Tzolakis, Nobel Mendy, Hidemasa Morita and Jack Butland are among the new faces, while Lewie Coyle remains captain and Oliver McBurnie leads the line.
This guide was checked against Hull City and Premier League pages on 4 September 2026. It covers the 27 players currently shown with the club’s first team, confirmed shirt numbers, manager, stadium, two released kits, recent standings, history and the main questions supporters are asking.

About Hull City
Hull City were founded in 1904 and built their identity around black-and-amber shirts, a working port city and a supporter base that waited more than a century to see top-flight football. The Tigers first reached the Premier League in 2008 and have since become one of the clearest examples of how quickly a club can move between divisions.
The club play at the MKM Stadium, a modern ground opened in 2002 after the move from Boothferry Park. Hull share the stadium with rugby league side Hull FC, but football nights there have produced some of the club’s biggest memories, including promotion campaigns and a run to the 2014 FA Cup final.
2026-27 Season Preview
Hull returned through the 2025-26 Championship play-offs after finishing sixth with 73 points. They drew 0-0 at home to Millwall in the semi-final first leg, won 2-0 at The Den, then beat Middlesbrough 1-0 at Wembley when McBurnie scored deep into stoppage time.
The opening two Premier League matches have already changed the mood around the club. Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy scored in the 2-0 win over Manchester United, while Liam Millar struck late at Coventry before leaving on loan. Two wins do not settle a survival race, but they give Hull a useful platform and proof that Jakirović’s plan can work at this level.

Hull City Recent Standings
| Season | League finish |
|---|---|
| 2025-26 | 6th in the Championship — 73 points; play-off winners |
| 2024-25 | 21st in the Championship — 49 points |
| 2023-24 | 7th in the Championship — 70 points |
Hull went from surviving on goal difference in 2024-25 to winning promotion one year later. The 2025-26 side often found a way through tight matches, and that resilience became most valuable in the play-offs.
Hull City Head Coach: Sergej Jakirović

Sergej Jakirović
Country: Bosnia and Herzegovina
Head coach
Hull appointed Jakirović in June 2025 after his work in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Türkiye. His first season in England began unevenly, but the team became harder to beat, handled the pressure of the run-in and produced three controlled play-off performances when the stakes were highest.
His Hull side defend with commitment, attack quickly when the ball turns over and are comfortable playing without long spells of possession. The first two Premier League wins followed that pattern: disciplined work in their own half, strong set pieces and decisive moments at the other end.
Hull City Stadium: MKM Stadium
The MKM Stadium opened in December 2002 and stands in West Park, close to Hull city centre. Its bowl design keeps sightlines clear and places supporters close enough to the pitch for the noise to carry, especially when the lower tiers are full.
The official capacity is 25,586. Hull City share the ground with Hull FC, while the stadium complex also includes community and sporting facilities. For visiting supporters, Hull Paragon Interchange is the main rail and bus arrival point, with the walk to the ground taking roughly 20 minutes.
Hull City Kits 2026-27
OXEN Sports supplies Hull City’s 2026-27 playing kit. The club has released its home and away strips; the official shop currently has no third-kit product available, so this guide does not present an unconfirmed design.

Home Kit: Black and Amber
The home strip keeps Hull’s unmistakable black-and-amber identity for the Premier League return. It is the shirt tied most closely to the Tigers nickname and the club’s visual history.

Away Kit
Hull and OXEN presented the away kit in July 2026 as the alternative strip for the new Premier League campaign. The clean contrasting look separates it clearly from the black-and-amber home colours.
Hull City History
Hull City joined the Football League in 1905 and spent much of their early history in the second and third tiers. The club came close to promotion several times before the modern rise began under Peter Taylor, whose team climbed from the fourth tier to the Championship in successive seasons.
Promotion at Wembley in 2008 took Hull into the top flight for the first time. Further promotions followed in 2013 and 2016, and Steve Bruce’s side reached the 2014 FA Cup final, taking a 2-0 lead before Arsenal won 3-2 after extra time. The 2026 play-off victory created another Wembley landmark and returned the club to the Premier League after nine years.

Hull City Rivals
Grimsby Town are Hull’s traditional Lincolnshire and Humber rivals, although the clubs have rarely shared a division in recent years. Matches with Scunthorpe United also carry local weight and form part of the wider Humber rivalry.
Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday are important Yorkshire fixtures when league paths cross. Those games are driven by regional pride, large away followings and years of meetings in the Championship rather than one single derby history.
Hull City Tactical Outlook
Jakirović’s team are built to stay compact, compete for second balls and break at speed. Tzolakis has started strongly in goal, while Coyle, Ajayi, Hughes, Egan, Mendy and Giles give the coach several ways to shape the back line. Morita can bring calm to midfield, with Slater, Gyabi, Crooks and Gourna-Douath offering running power and defensive cover.
McBurnie remains the obvious reference point up front. His ability to hold the ball, attack crosses and contest aerial duels helps Hull move up the pitch. Belloumi and Gelhardt can work around him, while set pieces are a real weapon: three of Hull’s first four league goals came from defenders or followed dead-ball situations.
Transfers and Squad Building
Hull’s summer work focused on strengthening the spine without losing the players who delivered promotion. Butland and Tzolakis increased the competition in goal, Mendy and Herrington added defensive options, and Morita, Hjertø-Dahl and Gourna-Douath brought different qualities to midfield. Targett offers Premier League experience on the left.
The club also made late changes around the edges of the squad. The current first-team page is the clearest guide to who remains in Jakirović’s senior group, while the Premier League registration list and under-21 rules determine who can be selected during the campaign.
